Mass. Museum of Contemporary Art
Education Assistant
The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art’s education department is responsible for the internal and external education of the exhibits that the institute presents. Along with the installation spaces, the education department is responsible for Kids Space : a hands-on gallery space for young audiences. The education assistant is responsible for the education oriented research that is done to better engage audiences when they are in the various spaces. This position requires internal conversations with artists about how their
work will be presented, as well as taking into consideration the various audiences that the exhibits bring in.
As the Education Assistant at Mass MoCA, I have been responsible for holding meetings with artists who are set to present in our gallery spaces. These meetings are to talk about the art and the artist's objective in presenting their work. I work closely with curators in the education department to create devices of engagement to connect audiences with already existing shows and future installations. Currently, I am working with Sean Leonardo and Bruno Miguel to establish engagement questions for their installation at Kids Space.
“I always remind myself of how fortunate I am to be able to build my resume at institutes that hold the same values I have for education. The Berkshires and MCLA are the beacon for that opportunity. I am learning to navigate the internal environment of an art museum through the lens of educational programming.” - Erick Ramos-Jacobo
