Internship Summary:

During the Mosaic Summer Residency Program, I have been able to learn more where my place is in the art world. Through this opportunity at “Gallery 51,” I set up gallery exhibitions, assisted the artist-in-residence with their upcoming exhibitions, helped with marketing and planning for upcoming events, and more. I was immersed in the vibrant arts world of the Berkshires through attending several art institutions in the area such as MASS MoCA, The Clark, and The Williamstown Theatre Festival.

These events have helped me form my independent art project. I made an 18x24” collage piece that also includes illustration of the two paths in life, one is the brighter path that leads to being able to support myself, owning a house, and getting married; and the other is the darker path that leads to poverty, jail, and not being able to support myself. This idea originated from things that I’ve seen throughout the world and on the news, which has me constantly thinking of these two paths. I am also a senior right now, so it won’t be very long until I have to make this decision myself.

Shyane’s Reflection:

This internship has been a good learning opportunity for me to learn hands-on skills while working in a gallery. As I get to help other artists bring their art piece to life, helping me with my future plans for working in a gallery or as a museum curator. During this internship I have also gained inspiration and knowledge from going to arts and culture events in the area and viewing many types of art that serve as inspiration for my won work in the future.
