Student: Sarah Briggs

Internship Title: Curation and Programming Intern

Location: The Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum

Term: Summer 2025

Internship Summary:

The Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum is a historic house museum in Adams,

Massachusetts, showing the life and legacy of Susan B. Anthony and the suffrage movement.

As a summer intern at The Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum, I work in a cohort with one or two other interns. The work is very flexible to the interests of the intern. I focused on curation and education and helped install the summer exhibit, "Votes for Women: How Tea Sparked a Suffrage Revolution." I also redesigned many of the field trip plans and educational outreach programs to make them more accessible for schools by adding learning objectives and what Massachusetts Learning Standards each program covered. The other interns are also working on their own projects as well, such as research for next year's summer exhibit, learning the museum’s fundraising software, and reworking our outdoor exhibit. As interns, we also help with events that the museum puts on, such as a “Re-Enactment of the Declaration of the Rights of Women in the United States” for the Fourth of July, where I performed as Lillie Devereaux Blake, or pouring tea at the Afternoon Tea series throughout the summer.

Sarah’s Reflection:

I have loved my time working at the SBABM! Because it is such a small museum, each person who works or interns there is so vital to the team, making for a close knit and dynamic group to work with. I want to pursue a career in education and programming in museums after college, and this internship has given me so much hands-on experience, like learning to send press releases, networking with other museums at events, and how to make events and programs that people will want to attend.
