cenizas a cenizas

césped a césped

polvo de estrellas a polvo de estrellas

sementeras del efímero

English: "Brothers"

Is it because of the drowsiness that the silence grows between us

or

for the snow falling like ashes in the cemetery?

Because the stars are so wonderful

and the grass under my body is wonderful

and they are both brothers - you say

Because quiet we know what we are

ashes to ashes

grass to grass

stardust to stardust

sementeras of the ephemeral

Spanish: “La Montaña y La Tormenta”

¿Qué es lo que dicen las montañas del Dios?

¡Ya viene, ya viene el viento!

viene, viene la lluvia

la misma montaña que no puedes subir

es la que te protege de la tormenta

English: "The Mountain and the Storm"

What do the mountains of God say?

The wind is coming, the wind is coming!

the rain is coming

the same mountain that you can't climb

is the one that protects you from the storm

Your passage speaks of divine wisdom, change, and protection. The mountains symbolize strength, the wind and rain signal an approaching shift, and the very obstacle you struggle to overcome becomes your refuge. It’s a poetic reminder that challenges can also be sources of safety.

Tarah Valin’s poem “Hermanos” beautifully captures themes of silence, nature, and the ephemeral nature of existence. The imagery of snow falling like ashes in a cemetery is haunting yet poetic, reinforcing the connection between life and death. The comparison of stars and grass as “brothers” adds a profound sense of unity in the universe. The closing lines, “cenizas a cenizas” and “polvo de estrellas a polvo de estrellas,” are especially powerful!

Tarah Valin’s poem “Brothers” beautifully explores the quiet connection between nature, existence, and our shared mortality. The imagery of snow falling like ashes in a cemetery evokes profound reflection, while the silence between “brothers” speaks volumes. It’s a tender reminder of our unity and inevitable return to the earth.
