Gillian Fournier, Arts Management and Art Arts Integration Research Intern

Internship Description & Review:

This semester I have the amazing opportunity to intern for Berkshire Regional Art Integration Network (BRAINworks). This is a federally funded grant program the provides free professional development in arts integration to teachers in North Adams and Berkshire County. Through this internship I conduct research on topics and ideas related to art integration, such as how to assess arts integrated learning, and cultural institutes that offer professional development and workshops for teachers. I also assist with determining materials to be shared with the teachers in the program, and assist during the professional development days through any task needed. I have also had the opportunity to apply my design skills through various graphic design projects related to BRAINworks. This work feels important, as the lessons that stuck with me most from K-12 are the ones that utilized arts integration. It is so rewarding to be a part of a program that will help students grow in ways that a more traditional lesson may not allow them to.

“This internship has allowed me to take the skills and knowledge that I have learned through my coursework, and apply them in practice. I am thankful for the opportunity to intern for a program so deeply connected to my interest in arts education. ”
