This is an open letter to incoming freshmen from MCLA.
Dear Incoming Freshmen,
I know how it feels to enter a whole new chapter of your life. I was the same way when I began my college experience. It felt as though it was both exciting and terrifying. It might be your first time away from home, while for others, it is their new home. Do not let the fear stop you from participating in all the different experiences this school has to offer. Join clubs, go to events, talk to people in the quad.
One tip that I have for you is to maintain a balance. When thinking about your college experience, you can separate it into three main categories. The categories are, academic, social, and work life. While it seems as though there are not enough hours in the day to manage them all, it is possible. You have to make sure to not prioritize one over the other. Make sure to give them all the importance they need. By creating a schedule, it will get you into a routine that makes it easy to manage. It will not overwhelm you, which would cause more stress in the process.
Another tip that I have is to find who your support system is. This may not always be the same list of people. It is a rotating list of professors, friends, and family who you know will have your back. Do not be afraid to reach out to them when things get tough. They are there to support you when you need them. And don’t be too hard on yourself. You have already made it this far, you have great things ahead of you.
College is a time where you find who you are as a person. You create a group of friends that will be with you for years, learn new things, and create networks for future jobs. Good luck in your first year at MCA. I hope you make the most out of it!
Sincerely,
An MCLA Grad
