This week, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on the incredible work MCLA students are doing through their internships. Check out what Sarah Briggs has been accomplishing at Mass MoCA under her role as a Public Programs Intern!

Overview:

MASS MoCA is one of the largest centers in the world for contemporary fine and performing art. The Public Programs department at MASS MoCA helps connect the museum with the greater community through special events. Public Programs caters experiences for all ages from workshops in Kidspace, to the Teen Activator program, to artist talks. Through this experience, interns can grasp more of an understanding of the internal functions of a museum and gain valuable networking skills. This internship also works closely with the Education department, learning the museum’s pedagogy.

Sarah's summary:

This internship has various duties including collecting and organizing art supplies for events, assisting with the ArtBar at Kidspace, attending events put on by public programs and evaluating their success, and attending meetings with other departments about upcoming events. I have access to an archive of past events that I can view and write about. Interning with the Public Programs department has allowed me to think deeply about how to connect with museum visitors in a more meaningful way.

Sarah's reflection:

This opportunity has allowed me to work with some of the most passionate people in the art world working toward making this museum an exciting place for all to visit
