North Adams Partnership / Hatchlings Internship North Adams
MCLA students are doing some impressive things in their internships, and we’re here to share it! This week, we’re featuring Conall Mannion and his time working with the North Adams Partnership on the Hatchlings project in North Adams.

Internship summary:
The role of the intern is to both independently and collaboratively assist the Partnership with various ongoing projects and to fulfill the organizations’ mission to enhance the economy of North Adams, as well as uplift the city’s position as a center of commerce, culture, education and innovation. Fulfilling two days a week in office, the intern is responsible for the production of projects such as the Hatchlings Documentary, and Filmmaking Playbook, both of which require knowledge and proficiency with filmmaking, digital media, and effective communication skills. Additionally, the intern is available to assist with the various housing and economic development projects that the partnership has undertaken through independent research, community engagement, and integration of regional resources
North Adams Partnership mission statement:
To enhance the economy of the city of North Adams and establish and maintain the city's position as a small city center of commerce, culture, education, and innovation.
Conall's reflection:
This internship has been an extremely rewarding experience in working with a locally based nonprofit. During my short time at the North Adams Partnership, I’ve met so many wonderful people and members of local organizations here in Berkshire County. Whether it’s interviewing a local city council member, attending a Blackshires summit, or just spending time in the office with Jenny - each experience has taught me so much about how ideas are really brought into action in a community such as North Adams. The level of detail and organization required to secure funding, permission, and keep up with deadlines is extreme. Over the past few weeks I’ve had to be more organized than ever before, because of the level of independence that Jenny has granted me to work within. This is particularly true for the documentary that I’m producing for the Hatchlings project. Producing a long-term project such as a documentary requires planning and consistent work to ensure that the final product will be thoroughly thought out, and complete on time. This has left room for me to both assist the Partnerships work, but also still utilize my own creativity throughout.
“During my time with the North Adams Partnership I have been given the opportunity to learn the inner workings of large-scale municipal projects, while also still having room to fully express my own creativity” - Conall Mannion
